For the best North Carolina style barbecue anywhere, try Parker's Barbecue Restaurant. The original was in Rocky Mount and was built by 3 brothers. After about fifty years, they franchised the system and one of their stores is in Greenville. This barbecue is different since it doesn't have the ketchupy sauce most barbecues have. It is whole hog cut up with only crushed red pepper, salt and vinegar for seasoning.

You have to experience it to understand.

Parker's is good for BBQ (on Memorial Dr.)
Andy's has the best hamburgers & cheesesteaks (at the mall and on Cotanche St).
Jersey Mikes for subs.
O'Charleys is good for a variety of foods.
I'm rather partial to the lemon chicken at Ragazzi's.
Mazatlan has good Mexican.
