Because movie makers have forgotten that it's the horrifying story lines and the unexpected is what makes something scary. Instead, they go for the "shock value" and blood. In doing this, they neglect the rest of the movie, making something that barely passes for cinema.

Directors just seem to repeat the same "scare" moments [cats jumping out of closets, loud noises, etc] that have been done in 100s of films, then expect audiences to jump. Also, pouring on gallons of blood doesn't make a film scary, just bloody boring. For a new movie that is truly scary - and funny and moving - critics are recommending The Host. It's a "monster" movie from Korea that's supposed to be as scary as Jaws & Alien. Coming soon to a city near you.

I liked the Saws because it was while not scary a little more realistic & had new twists. I even in some cases cheer for Buzz because he had a point in teaching people lesson as to how certain things weren't more important then life. Like for example bueaty over time beauty fades.

As you get older, you realise what is real and not real. Plus technology has increased so much that the normal house hold person understands how movies and special effects can be added so it has no real impact on you when you watch a horror film.
Also, as you get older, your preferences probably change so you might like watching a different type of genre now.

Cause every horror movie is done the same way. A lot of blood and gore just for shock factor and it comes off cheesy, lame and retarded. Nothing to move the story along...and every horror movie uses the same cliche's ..like people get stranded somewhere, when two people are getting it on in the scene and they both get killed.
It gets so predictable and boring !!!!!!

I agree. movies like the Blair Witch undertaking are all movies interior the ninety's. the only 2 movies i will say that are those days made that scared me are Paranormal activity and Mirrors. something are no longer frightening. Older horror movies merely had that kick that made the full factor plenty scarier than now.

Try watching asian horror. Different style, visually alarming. America has lost all touch on what is scary.
