Hi brooke b,

Actually iSight is the main webcam for the Macintosh and is the most compatible. However, iSight cameras are kind of expensive and since Apple has put built-in iSight cameras onto many of their new Macs, the old iSights are harder to find.

There's good news though. Rather than buying an iSight camera, see if you can pay a little more for a digital camera (one that has a firewire attachment). You can mount the digital camera to a tripod, put in a tape, so the camera doesn't go to sleep, and plug in the firewire cable.

Your iChat AV and Yahoo! Instant Messaging will recognize the camera and you can video conference using this. Plus, you have a the camera for editing movies with your Mac's iMovie.

I bought the USB iceCam from Macally

and used iChatUSBCam software, which fools iChat into recognizing a slow USB webcam:

The only problem is that USB is so much slower than Firewire and this effects your video conferencing. Best of luck.

what's extra significant than the digital camera is the utility. once you save for a digital camera, be sure the equipment standards listed on the equipment record MAC as a supported working equipment.

Actually, the iSight is compatible, faster than most web cams
and completely supported by Apple.

Indeed, newer laptops come with the iSight built in.
