Is it racist to refer to a mixed-race person as being mulatto (half white half black)? If I where to describe a person mixed of black and white parentage I would call them mulatto rather "mixed" or "half white half black" or "light-skinned black"? People aren't solutions or food. Light-skinned Black is an oxymoron.

No. People need to lighten up (no pun intended).

If we can agree that it is a word that black folk shouldn't use, then I suppose I would be willing to remove it from my vocabulary.

The same standards for all people!

Thank you. Thank you very much.

Well, yes it is, because of it's meaning. Mullatto means mule in spanish. That's what is said every time if someone says it. I don't think it's appropriate to say.
Light-skinned black or dark skinned white wouldn't be right, because they aren't one race. They are two races. Half white and half black sounds right, but also they are not a mix of half percentage of a black person and white person. They are 100% of black and !00% white beings. (two races in one... like with anyother bi-/deux races or a double race, ex. chinese black, spanish japanese, sweden columbian, etc.). When it comes to three, four or more, mixes is tighter or stronger, so mixed race person could definately source the title. I think. I don't know if someone could be 6 races or more. Would they have to show all superficial racial traits to be considered all the races like the two race ppl's whose traits of ex. black white mixes are so evident most of the time?

Yes, I would never refer to a mixed race person as a mule.

Why don't you just ask the person what they wish to be referred to as. What do THEY consider themselves. Let each person define him or herself and not you try to define them. That could be part of the problem. Telling others who you think they are, instead of allowing them to tell you.

not really. But if a mulatto takes offense at being called that. I wouldn't call them that to their face.

I would think it's offensive if not racist, and would most likely require being careful when using it.
