I am a pretty girl but when I try to take a picture of myself it is completly different than what I see in the mirror. I have to take over 400 photos to find at least 5 that are good. My eyes come out beady and my cheeks come out huge, but in person I look nothing like that. I have friends that look great in the first picture. I don't let people take pictures of me because I never come out good unless I take my own because I know what angles to use so that I look like me in person. What other things can I do, I'm tired of having to make my face super bright and making people mad because I won't let them take a picture. Please help.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. Having had photography as a hobby all my life and working freelance when I was younger, it is dang hard to take your own picture. Lets review, you say no one else can take good pictures of you so you do not let them. But even your admit it takes more than 400 of the ones YOU take of yourself to get five good ones. It may not be that you are not photogenic. The people who are snapping your pic are not photographers and most likely never taken classes. Many people make commom mistakes in taking pictures; placing people in the wrong area so contrast makes them too dark or too light. Placing them in too harsh of light. The wrong background etc. People do not remember that the human eys working with the brain can compensate for a lot of things where the camera don't. That is why you do not see you in the pics taken because you are processing your image different from the naked data the camera gets. It(the camera)take the reflective light of the object and saves it to film or digitaly on a chip. The lens do not cpmpensate for contrast to make a better image. But you are lucky we are in an age of digital picture taking. You can get a tripod, and set your camera on it. Then using different types of light from different angles see what works best for you. If you do no not like the result, you see instantly and can just wipe it out and keep going. Most everyone can take a good picture. Some just have to work at it a little harder. But once you know what light works best for yout face IE, overcast day, open shadow, backlit sun with fill flash, bounce flash, etc, your pictures will be much better.

Try not to get upset when some is taking your picture. I know its hard but if you are having a good time a nd smiling it should show up on the picture.

Its sounds like you have already done some practiced taking picture yourself so you know what tricks to do. IF picture are immanent, try to be in the "right" positions for it.

And again its hard try not to get mad at people. They must enjoy you and want to be with you. And part of that is saving the moment in pictures.

Good Luck!

I'm not the most gorgeous girl but even the biggest and most beautiful models will look bad in some pictures. I do modelling for my sisters textiles and photography projects but it depends on the lighting and make up and colours and background and anything else you can think of. I bet you are pretty though :) xx

Hey, I know how to practice this. Put your camcorder to shoot yourself and the other end hook up to the TV, that means you see yourself whichever angle and light reflection you like. Once you know which angle, light and distance are good for you, put a digital camera where the camcorder is, take your own picture with timer.

Remove oil from you face before having a photo taken. Put on loose powder. Take less photos and spend more time and money on your favourite hobby .

i don't think theres an answer to this. just be comfortable with ur self in any pic. don't care about a pic b/c u kno that ur beautiful anyway. just let people take pics but then take their camera then delete them if they're digital if they're not then ur screwed or wait until u get to see the pic then shred it.

We are all overcritical of ourselves. We do not see ourselves as others do. Example: If I create a home craft or artwork I look at it & see all the flaws. I look at someone else's artwork or home craft & see only the uniqueness or beauty=when they see mine it is with their eyes. No one is as hard on you as you-that means you are a good person, you are blessed.
