I have an Epson CX5200 printer that has been sitting for about a year. I bought a new laptop and decided to install it. I can't find my original install disk so I downloaded the install drivers directly from Epson. They don't seem to work. It won't print or scan. I bought brand new ink and everything. I don't know what to do. Please help.

Check in the control panel that your computer recognises the printer. If it does, it may be that, because it's been sitting idle for so long, the printer head is blocked up. If it is you'll need a new head. But check aeverything else first. New heads are pretty expensive to waste if it turns out to be another problem

First try to see if your printer has a connection, Open notepad or word pad and send some simple sentance to your printer. If it prints you have simple connections established. Next open your epson software and select scan, If no response, Remove your printer cable. turn off your printer, shut down your system. turn them both on without connection, then turn them both off and reconnect, see if your system sees the device should be in the lower right hand corner off the taskbar. Make sure you have your printer selected as the default printer a tick next to your printers model find this in control panel, then go to printers properties. then find print directly to printer option select it, also make sure you see which port the printer is connected to, USB or LPT1. You can also go to the comand prompt and type this sentance exacty.... testing port >LPT1 or USB1 if that's what port you are using. this will send (testing port) directly to your printer and it should print if no information prints and still nothing try another cable..may be faulty cable. otherwise delete exsisting printer then select another printer driver from you system example an old XL ESCP/2 driver to communicate if this works with it try to download or reinstall CX drivers and make sure you have this printer set up as default and try again. Your epson software should have a test to calibrate your scanner, this will test scanner and communication with your printer. You should have software to be able to scan directly from it and be able to use your scanner.

Not only do you need to download the drivers, but you have to install them too. Then again, you'll need more than just drivers. You need to download and install the printing and scanning software too.

I hope you have hi-speed internet...

You have to talk dirty to it.
