Most working americans at some point or routinely have to pass drug screens to attain and keep gainful employement. Isn't it then logical to require people who do not work and are receiving tax dollars to at least pass the same level screening?

yes absolutely...i work in a pharmacy and it makes me sick how many "fun" drugs are dispensed at the taxpayers expense. and these are the people who don't work. i think they should get tested randomly for drugs same as the rest of us. and these are the very people who show up in local newspapers for drug busts.

Hell yes! If someone is receiving aid from the government ( in other words if I am being taxed to redistribute my hard earned money to go to someone else ) then they should be drug tested. If they are on the government dole then they can't afford drugs and they have enough problems. And all government employees should be tested because they invariably work for us. Especially elected positions of employment and authority figures like police and judges. I strongly believe that they should be held to a stronger degree of behavior and should be dealt with more severely when found to be breaking the law.

Why not take it a few steps further and require all gov't officials to test? You sound as if you think everyone receiving aide are dope fiends. Look at the national statistics! The majority of people who use controlled substances are white, but somehow the minorities end up in jail. Try to remember that there are still more Caucasians in the country than people of other races. If the rules don't apply to everyone equally then what's the point?

Let me complicate the question a little. The bigger question (beyond receiving unemployment benefits) is if we should require random drug testing for receiving tax funds. Should this not include EIC payments? What about govt funded pensions and annuities?

Tax revenues are used to fund numerous programs. Where would you draw the line and stop requiring drug testing?

What about college Pell grants? Would you include all govt benefit programs?

I would actually have to agree with you that yes that is a good idea. Now i actually have no problem with people choosing to use drugs and i believe most should be legalized. but if you are gonna do it you should have to work for it and not expect others to pay for your drug habit.

As a condition for receiving aid, I see no problem. Of course the crime rate will increase slightly.
