To become a lawyer, you have to go to an accredited law school, earn a JD degree (3 years full-time) and pass the bar exam in the state that you want to practice law after you graduate from college. Most undergraduates study subjects that require a lot of writing and critical thinking such as political science and/or philosophy but your major can be in anything. Also some people earn a Master's degree (1-2 years full-time) on top of their Bachelor's before applying to law schools.

to be a layer, you have to go to law school to get your juris doctorate, not a masters.
