If the symbol for the formula of a pure substance is SiCl4, the substance is an atom or a molecule?

It's a molecule since it is made up of more than one atom.

1 atom of silicon, and 4 atoms of clorine

Since both silicone and chlorine are both pure atoms, this is obviously a molecule. I hope you are not in the middle of taking a chemistry class, because you don't really understand what it's all about. Hopefully this was just a question that resulted from your curiosity.

It is a molecule. Atom is a smallest particle of an ELEMENT whereas molecule is a smallest part of chemical COMPOUND. ^-^
