Imagine you live your life on a railroad train, happily going along the track. Everything you experience is based on that reality. You form your views of life, people, time, reality based on your experience. If you could suddenly fly in a plane, your perception of the world would be very different. That is essentially what an altered state means, and can be as simple as the above, or come from other influences like drugs, meditation, fasting, chanting, deprivation tanks, etc. The altered state gives you a different view of reality as it comes from a very different perspective of mind, often leading to personal growth due to a broadening of what you can see and understand.

Altered state simply means not normal or abnormal or different from common...Like for example: I have an altered state of mind according to my psychiatrist.

Hope this will help. God bless.
