Dear Sugar n Spice
I believe psychic ability is not something we have... it is a state of being--you ARE psychic. And I believe we are all psychic and have the capability of developing our intuition and sensitivity to these different states of psychic awareness. We have many names for it: psychic knowing, intuition, gut feeling, our inner voice, the higher self, Super Consciousness, and even some early Christians called it gnosis. In the end it is all the same, part of the same thing.
I remember once I went to see a woman; she read tarot cards, read palms, and other things. After my reading she wanted me to pay extra money for her to perform an "angel" blessing. I told her no because it is something I can do myself. I've always been interested in this topic; I've watched Sylvia Browne on Montel. I have all of her books and even the manuals from her church, in California. And I've attended one of her lectures. I've watched John Edward on television and I've read some of his books. And now days it can be confusing how we are to develope our intuition since there ARE so many books out there on the this subject; just visit your local book store and you'll see the shelves filled. I've been to a Spiritualist Church where they include psychic readings along with the sermon.
In my experience, I have found being psychic is not so much about palm reading, tarot cards, or telling someone's future. It is our natural ability to communicate with the divine, that higher part of our collective selves--which many people call God. It is through "psychic ability" that we communicate with our Angels, Spirit Guides, our Loved ones who have passed, and it is how we communicate with God. It is through our intuition we know that Life is not limited to this physical reality. So we must come to an understanding: Psychic isn't something we "do"; it is a state of being--it is who we ARE.
Now I believe there are three levels of creation: Thought (Spirit), Word (Soul/Mind), Deed (Body/Expression). This "trinity" must be in alignment to create and develope anything, even within the context of psychic ability. Along with being psychic, we are all CREATORS. We are creating and experiencing our reality every moment.
The first aspect starts with belief. No matter what you are getting into, belief is the engine. Everything is energy; thoughts are things; thoughts are energy. And thoughts create reality. So if someone believes there is nothing more than this physical existance, that psychic ability is false and you cannot know anything beyond your physical five senses, then that is what they will create and experience for them. If we believe Life is more than this physical existance and all things are ONE, connected, then we will experience an expanded sense of reality. We will open ourselves to other levels of awareness, expanded planes of consciousness. When we develope this ability it becomes just as natural as the sense of smell. It isn't paranormal or supernatural because we know that physical life is just one aspect of Life--one level--and there are many more realities in which all things are possible.
The second step is research. Once we get past the superficial ideas of what being psychic means, then we can get to a deeper and more mature understanding. We can go beyond the physical meaning and it purpose. Now is the part where you start researching what being psychic really means. So we go to the origin of the word psychic and it comes from the Greek word psychikos, which has to do with the mind and means "of the Soul". It comes from the Greek root word psyche (soul/mind). We also get the word psychology--a study of the mind. And we get the word psychokinesis which means to move things with the mind... or... we are moving it with our Soul... because we are "of the Soul". So you might want to find books which resonate with you, which will show you different techiques for developing your intuition.
The third step is practice. The most common ways to develope your intuition are: Prayer and Meditation-- pretty much all books you read will list these two practices. It really is about quieting the mind and learning to listen to the silence. Be open to what comes through, there are many many ways. However the real key is in knowing you are "of the Soul"--it is who you really are. Again you will have to find what works for you; good luck. One good way to develope psychic ability is to find a local new age store, near you and see if they have any classes. This will also allow you to find other people in your area who are into the same thing you are. I know this is very important to you; it is to everyone to have other people of like mind, to talk with.

Another thing I've heard from a friend who claims to be psychic is that sometimes it comes and goes as it pleases and you are allowed windows and that's all... It's not what you want to see but what basically comes in (Like what you are allowed to see)

I don't think there is any such thing about psychics. My dad used to believe that this man and that man was a psychic. Unfortunately he lost 4000$ dollars on something that didn't even help him one bit. One of the psychics was a criminal too, later becoming arrested. Unless you want to be a con-artist, then you should only know that psychic abilities are false.

Yes, I think that's true. Being psychic just means going with your gut instinct and quieting your mind. You don't have to meditate, but try to quiet your mind, do research on the subject, ask questions. I like reading the books by Sylvia Browne and John Edward (the medium).

We only use 10 per cent of our brain, if that. I too think we have the capability of being psychic, however you have to have quiet time to use the intuition that you have.

It's a product of many life times. So, if you're just now asking the question, you're in for a long ride.

Evidence that can be tested would be nice and eliminate false claims.
What I really don't understand is, why is it wrong to want proof?
