Baseball is the hardest of all the four major sports to predict. Who would have thought the Tigers would have made it to the World Series at the beginning of last season?(This coming from a person who has been a loyal fan for 37 years) .
I think they have the talent and maturity to do so. They definitely have the best pitching rotation in the majors, and that is the foundation for any championship. Zumaia should come into his own as the closer this year, and they did not lose any key names in the free agent market. Signing Sheffield may be the final piece to their puzzle. I would say they have an excellent chance, but, again I repeat, baseball is the hardest sport to predict, and nobody picked them to be even in the playoffs, let alone make the World Series, at the beginning of 2006.

Ya know, that's still a long ways off.
Let us enjoy the season first.
But, it could happen
They certainly have the talent to go far.
While it would be nice for My Boys to win the World Series, I am most certainly will enjoy whatever they do.
For the first time in a long while, My Boys are getting the respect they so rightfully deserve.
Injuries?
Ha! If that were to happen, it would be NO problem, as our farm system is well stocked and ready to go.
The Tigers are looking good, but first have to win the AL Central. That will not be an easy task---as Cleveland and Minnesota will be in the mix all season long.
The key here is get off to a good start. If they can win 25-27 of thier first 40 games, then I would say yes.
Let me go on record right now and say that NO MATTER what happens, The 2006 American League Champion Detroit Tigers will have a good year, and 2006 was not a fluke. (unlike some 2005 team we all know and dislike).
NO MATTER what happens I will remain a very loyal, dedicated and PROUD fan of The Detroit Tigers.

A lot of things went right for the Tigers in 06, especially being relatively free of major injuries (with the exception of Mike Moroth). One cant expect the same luck for 07. That said, the pitching for the Tigers can be compared favorably with any club in the majors. Gary Shefield is bound to add some punch to an already tough lineup. So to sum up, the odds are against them making it to the W.S.,but dont be suprised if the beat the odds in 07, just as they did in 06. As far as winning, the American league is still the superior league, talentwise. So I would lean toward whichever American league team makes the W.S.winning it all.

okay, the are bringing back the same starting lineup and pitching staff as their world series team. but now they've added future hall of famer gary sheffield at dh and backup outfield. darn. they have solid backups at most positions and many fielders on the tigers can play multiple positions. our relief staff unlike the starting staff is righty heavy, but they still have some of best most solid relief pitchers in the game. and once they learn how to field grounders and what base the throw the ball to, they will be alright. joel zumaya, fernando rodney and wilfredo ledezma would be solid solid starters on most team. they lost jamie walker but added jose mesa. their farm system is so tight. alexis gomez, brent clevland are so close to being major league ready for the season. cameron maybin is prospected to be one of the top centerfielders in teh game and andrew miller is the next randy johnson. the AL central is baseball's toughet division and the tigers, sox, indians, and twins will beat up on each other, but the tigers can still easily win the division and the world series.

Last year was not a fluke. They have talent. But as pointed out, no team in the 21st century has lost the World Series and been able to get back the next year, so I say no. But they will compete again this year. If not it would make you wonder, since they have so much talent. Except for Granderson - he cannot hit left handers, and cannot stop swinging at everything.

Haha, no. Last year was a fluke and a huge surprise to the baseball world. With the Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels becoming the leageues premier team, the Tigers are a long way off.

Their chances are 1 in a million. The Mets or the Braves will take them out if they get to the World Series which probably won't happen
