As a student, i am not that great in social studies too. I can never remember the dates and the names of people. What i do is write down the dates as a timeline.... i try to relate the dates to something, like my friends' birthdays or holidays. For the names, i just try to memorize it and try to get my friends to quiz me.
When i take notes, i usually write down almost everything the teacher says without even thinking about what i am writing down. When i am done, i look over my notes and try to understand what i wrote down. If i find something confusing, i look in the book or research it online and hope that it can help me understand better. If all hope fails, i have a friend explain the lessons to me.

take notes. Or if you dont like writting keep a voice recorder with you and record lessons and lechures. That way, you can go back to it while you're doing homework and a good way to study for tests. You may be a visual learner, which means that you remember things if they are wriiten on the board, acted out in some way or played in a game, for this you may want to take notes, create flashcards, etc. Over the weekends, get together with friends from your class and study together before exams.

Even though she/he kinda sucks, I reccommend this:
-Take basic notes on the topic disscussed, and research it at home, where you can take time and understand it better. Then, check with a friend who takes good notes to see if what you researched parallels what they have down as notes, so you know what the teacher might look for in the test.
