I just had mirena put in end of Jan, although, I am seeing a weight specialist so I have not gained any. If you are looking for an alternative, I was on Nuva Ring and did not have weight gain, I liked it a lot, but needed something more permanent.

I put on 12 pounds within 3 months without having done anything different. My OB/GYN who put it in says the wt gain is not due to the Mirena since the progesterone is so localized to the endometrium...however the OB/GYN I work for says my wt gain and fatigue have everything to due with the progesterone. But I am very pleased that it's made my periods very light and short, so I'm hoping a little more exercise will get the wt off, otherwise I may be having mine removed as well. You may already know this, but I thought I should share that there is a non-hormonal IUD (Paragard) that lasts up to 10 years...that's the only one my employer inserts and the pts. don't ever complain about them. Good luck!

I've had my Mirena in for 4 and a 1/2 years (after the birth of my son) and I love mine. Have had no side effects from this like I did from the depo-provera (light weight gain and alarming mood swings).

I'm coming up on my time to have it replaced and will definitely go with the same product.

It just goes to show that there's something out there for all of us. Open communication with your OB/GYN is very important, good luck finding what works for you!

I just had our 2nd child 4 months ago, I used IUD after our 1st child and i was OK, but this time I am gaining a lot of weight, even i think it is due to IUD. Hope we looses some weight after getting it removed. Let me know if you do loose some weight.
