It's not slow and boring. Im 14 and if you have played against an adult football club then you will think of it as the exact opposite! The game is VERY fast paced when it gets to the final moments especially where teams try to wrap up. There is a LOT of action on the pitch. Mad dribbling, god-like shots, insane defending, and tackling, keepers diving left and right to avoid the ball from getting in the net, beautiful stunts and eye-opening tricks....

In fact soccer is the sport that demands MUCH more dedication from me than has ANY other sport. It is VERY demanding on strength, control, stamina, endurance, control, control, and so MANY more!!!

Plus it is also very demanding on tactics & Strong positioning.

The low scores are what actually make each goal so memorable! They are rare and even missed shots could put an opposing team on bad morale. The rare goal is therefore VERY sweet.

If you still think it's boring, go watch Captain Tsubasa or Shaolin Soccer! It will blow your mind away!

A straight, friendly answer: what I find exciting about soccer is, the potential and, therefore, the tension. In basketball, for example, there's always a chance for a score and, guess what? they almost always score! So, I find very little tension or excitement. It always seems the same: go to this end, get 2 points; go to that end, get 2 points; go back to this end ... etc. Soccer has the thrill of a long hail-Mary pass at the end of an American football game, but EVERY player gets to be the quarterback whenever he has the ball! So at any moment, it can go wild! If you understand the tactical movements of the players who are OFF the ball when their team possesses it, you'll see they're all trying to get open, and we're all watching in the hopes that they will. Meanwhile the defenders are trying to figure it out fast enough to prevent it. So, there's constant tension. Kind of like a "perfect game" in baseball, in which, ideally, absolutely NOTHING will happen. But when you get to the 9th inning, EVERY pitch has the possibility of ... ruining it! That kind of tension exists in soccer, but not in most North American sports. If you think that "more scoring" means a more exciting game, then you'd prefer a 400 to 0 basketball game, right? Yawn, you knew who was going to win at 50 to 0, why watch the rest. And if you think that "all they're doing is running around," then you aren't familiar enough with soccer to recognize what the movements are intended to do: get open for the teammate with the ball, or prevent the opposition from getting open. It's American football without the play calling, without the stops, without the TV advertisements, with much more athleticism, no obesity, and no equipment. Sometimes they whine and roll over in soccer, and I hate that part. But otherwise, it's CONSTANT action. No stopping allowed!

Please don't bash and stereotype all Americans.

I like all sports, but football (soccer) is my favorite. What I love is the constant action, the beauty, the back and forth pull and the mental challenge. A football player must be constantly aware of all the other players on the pitch. It is a challenge to be mentally and physically able to succeed on the highest stage. And I don't find it slow at all, as the teams are constantly pushing towards the goal. The clock is always running. In American football, there is stoppage after every play, flags thrown, etc. Though I love the sport, I think it can be equally as slow-paced as any other sport.

If you are looking for a more dynamic game, I recommend indoor soccer... the shorter field means less time focused on movement and more time on offense. Its pace is comparable to that of hockey. It is practically all offense without the off-side traps. There are also no ties...

Well I guess that means you haven't watched the right games... I find soccer very exciting to watch, seeing the set plays, break-aways, some of those guys and their skill with the ball blows your mind... The fields are huge and these guy are running for 90 minutes besides a 15 minute break... their is no switching of lines no time-out... you get 90 minutes with added time the referee chooses.. 90 minutes make or break you...

The more nail biting games for me is when my team is winning by a goal and you pray for over half the game they hold onto the lead

and I have to mention the shoot-out... Germany vrs. Argentina... Germany was amazing, wow what skill and accuracy... (Argentina's coach had pulled off his goal scorers thinking defence which was their undoing) but wow when 5 out of 5 guys score on penalty shots and beat an internationally skilled goalie like that...

They don't wear tons of padding or helmets, its a uniform and shin-pads....

Soccer players are such athletes lean and strong and fast and talented.

If you watch a game.. a real game, a European game vs two powerful rivals its intense and exciting and nail-biting and fast...

Its a sport that requires alot of different skills, there are many different types of plays and players, playmakers, dribblers, wingers, strikers, attacking midfielders ,defenders, distributers, fast runners and many others. Its not all physical and not all mental, its the right mix and its great fun. Anyone can play, and you don't need to be strong or tall, you need to be fit. It keeps you in shape and its very competitive. Its the best sport in the world. nothing compares to it. and most game don't end in a tie...maybe in the world cup but not in leagues. there is a reason for ties int he world cup, its the most competitive tournament in soccer and every single player has worked very hard to get where they are and have exceptional skills, they may not look that good because they play along with the best players on the world but they are good, you should see them in leagues, eg. thierry henry is superior in leagues but he's an above average striker in the world cup level

We generally find the pay-off is better when the tension gets increased.
Being served up 'pizazz' on a minute by minute basis is like being with a prostitute rather than making love.
When a goal is scored it is a big thing, and no amount of cheerleading, or glitter can take that away.
Take Nascar, we don't see the point of a banked oval determining a driver's ability. We think a brick and a piece of string could do just as well (rightly or wrongly). That's why we prefer F1.
Our sports aren't perfect by a long stretch, but we just don't see the point in any American sport.

thats your opinion. foreign? skater?

i think the reason we like it so much is because its traditional for the english to like football, we have to be the best at our 'own' game since we invented it.
thats probably why it is a common sport in the uk.
we want to prove were the best at our own sport and so most of us show a big interest in it :) the sport cant be.. rubbish because the rest of europe play it and even brazil like a good game of footy.

the americans invented baseball and they want to be the best at that coz they invented it (defending your own sport).

and tbh lots of sports end in ties =\ maybe your not watching the right sport or you havent seen football in the uk?
in my eyes the premiership has the most fast paced football in the world.

football is about watchin your own town/city beat others and gettin the feeling your a better side :) amazing what people can do with a ball at their feet, most football games are different and theres many upsets.
i cant stand watchin cricket or baseball (throwin a ball around and running in circles) but i aint bothered. people have different opinions!

Football is the fastest growing sport in the world. and because men have more freedom than women (in terms of not having any barrier to stop them from doing whatever they want to do).

The other thing is that football is a men sport and it's only now that women are getting involved into playing it. From this reason you can easily say men do own it that's why they like it more than women.

Thanx!

Because, anyone can play soccer (football) anywhere, on the street, on the field, on the beach, and you don't need any goggles(masks) or whatever for protection. Having said that, it IS a personal choice to like soccer (football), and I am mad already for having to resort repeating the word soccer when all I meant (and all the world knows) is FOOTBALL ! aaarrrrrrgghhhh
