I took my baby swimming in the pool at around 4 months. She has very sensitive skin and the chlorine didn't seem to bother her. I just washed her off as soon as we were done and we didn't stay in the pool too long. I also lotioned her up afterwards. She even tried to drink the water and she didn't get sick.

Just make sure that the water is about 85 degrees...anything less makes for an unhappy baby. Also make sure you rinse off the pool water right after. Using a product like Aveno wash, will help to moisturize his skin after being in the chlorine, which can be very harsh and drying. Don't take him in if he has any kind of cold. Check with his dr to be sure. Better safe than sorry

This is really silly, but I watched for bathing suits that fit my daughter to decide. They start at about 12 months, so that is when I am going to let her.

That MAY be terrible logic, and if anyone on here contradicts me, listen to them. :) I would think that 4.5 months is a little too young. I think they need to be able to sit up very well on their own. Babies are very slippery, and I won't let my daughter get in the shallow end of the pool until she is old enough to float around by herself (on a floatation device, of course). Until then, our community center has a pool with a slanted bottom, like the ocean, and I will let her sit in the shallowest part of that.

I don't have an answer for you, but I'm glad you asked this question, because I have a 10 week old, and would love to have her swimming this summer! I also didn't know that babies can't wear sunblock until 6 months of age!

Shoot, I might be a horrible mother but I had my son at the pool at about four months. He went to the beach with us and everything. I'd say six months is a good age to start him off at but if you really wanted to I haven't found any research that proves against allowing a child in a chlorinated pool before six months. If it's an outdoor pool though I've heard that babies aren't able to wear sunscreen until they are six months which might be a reason. Just protect his skin and you'll be fine. Good luck and enjoy your summer!!

i took my son swimming when he was a month old. Nothing bad happened. Since he was too young for son block, I got him a floaty with a canopy on it. No swim suits fit him, so he just chilled in his diaper. I washed the chlorine off of him as soon as we got out and we only spent a few minutes in the pool. Now, I can't get him out of it!

My toddler is 4 months. I somewhat have taken him swimming three times. the 1st he grew to become into probable 3 months. Dont assume your toddler to do lots at this element although, they only kinda sit down there on your palms. Mine kicked his ft a sprint final time. yet, i think of its form of good to get them used to the water in case you desire them to like to swim later on. purely be sure you place quite some sunscreen on and in line with danger a hat. And, make certain they have not 'taken aback' the pool recently. They placed a ton of chemical ingredients in while they do this. have exciting! Oh ya, in straight forward terms a heads up, to no longer scare the crap out of you, that's somewhat useful to goggle dry drowning. I heard approximately it recently and its kinda frightening. young infants (properly every physique) can get water of their lungs and somewhat die hours after leaving the pool. in straight forward terms a pre-warning.

My son started going in the water at 2 months. He loved it. I never had any problems with the chorine on his skin or anything like that. I would make sure the pool is clean and that the water is not to hot or cold. ENJOY!
