I believe he said Yo-yo loaches folks. Yo-yo's are very active schoaling fish. Benefits would include scavenging for leftover food, and in a planted tank, if you got any hitchhikers(snails), these loaches love to eatem. I personally love the Yo-yo loach, but own Clown loaches now as I've got big tanks. The Yoyo will max out at about 4" so are a great choice for smaller tanks.

Dojos will help keep the bottom clean - they're scavengers -and great for getting around all the little places like plant roots (big loaches may uproot them!), rockwork, and driftwood that you can't get to easily with a gravel vacuum. They'll "disappear" into the substrate occasionally, where they keep things stirred up. Fun to watch interact when they're kept in groups.
Dojos supposedly react to changes in barometric pressure to predict storms, but some I've had weren't any more accurate that the news on TV (and some even less so)! Some of the loaches (botias) are good for controlling snails.
Missed the addition the first time around - they're about 8". You can get them in a gold variety as well : http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=2099

I think you mean, "dojo" loach. You have to remember that, even though loaches, or any bottom feeder, do eat the algae and some of the detritus on the substrate, they still add to the bio-load and create their own poop that gets added to the system. So, yes, they can be beneficial if you have provided additional space to carry their added waste load. Many loaches can get very large, and dojos are one of the largest, coming in at around 8 inches. Such a size would require that you add at least an additional 30 gallons for this fish alone. So, they can be good if you plan for them accordingly.

i have at least two loaches in each of my freshwater tanks
i love them, i have yoyos in my discus tank,
they are great scavengers and are really mellow with the other fish and they sleep on thier sides like they are dead
which i find adorable, i have selawasi loaches and horsefaces as well and they are also very good mellow scavengers
clowns are nice but they get HUGE and hillstreams can be nippy, otherwise those painted loaches are not great for community tanks but do well with cichlids
