In my personal opinion, I really think that it helps their career. In all of the movie trailers, companies will have the right to say that the actor has won an award. This is great for promotion, and makes a lot of people want to see a movie. "Hey guys, this new movie just came out, it stars Denzel Washington! He would never pick a bad movie to act in". That is an example of what effect an award can have on an actors career. To make a long story short, awards are very good to win, and they help to give the actor more publicity.

Um I certaintly think it furthers your career as an entertainer because Im sure that people in the industry realize that they're worthy enough to work with. Winning awards I think proves what an entertainer can do, what they're capable of. But that doesnt stand true for everybody. Examples: Marty Scorsese, who in his entire career hasnt won an Oscar. Clearly, he is one of the greatest directors alive, but never won until this years oscars. The second i think is Jennifer Hudson, a first timer, coming from American Idol, winning an Oscar for the very first time. That really dissapointed me, she didnt deserve it. Anyway, my point is that people have their opinion in who should win and who shouldnt. Some whos talents are the most obvious arent always the ones rewarded for it.

It certainly allows them to command more money for their talents and probably pick-up some additional fans in the process.

In the case of winning a grammy, oscar, etc. early in their career such as marisa tomei, mira sorvino, hootie and the blowfish, etc. it can really hamper a budding career. To win such an esteemed honor within your first years in the public eye suggests you might never reach this potential again, or tremendous things are expected of you - either way, that is intimidating.
