Thanks for your responses, I give 1 to all off you, however the real point here is that most of us prefer honesty, but why white lie is more acceptable form of lie in the society since it is still a lie?

I can also see white lies having beneficial outcome at first but in the long term it is still not favorable when the one that is told of a white lie discovers that what is told of him or her is a lie.

Hey MythBustr, you hit the spot man! My real point here is, honest people does not really prefer white lies. Its totally reflecting ones personality. In fact, I found the benefit of saying the truth from the first time, it will not generate additional problems, of course unless if we are dealing with criminals. My best vote for you.

Hi Dosage
I guess I would let you answer your own question by asking you how much does it matter to you that I give you an honest answer?
Our honesty is in direct proportion to our credibility.
Honesty is only important if having credibility and a good reputation among your peers is important to you.
If you don't care if people can trust you or not, then honesty isn't that important.
It's not just what other people think. It matters to you as well what you think about yourself. Even if you managed to fool everyone else, you would still know the truth. You would have to go through life knowing that you are a false person.
So the real question is - is honesty important to you?
God wants you to have credibility to the point where no one would ever doubt a word you say. Your reputation should be so solid that if you told people you won the lottery they wouldn't even question it; wouldn't require proof, wouldn't ask to see the winning ticket; they would simply take you at your word.
For me this is extremely important, personally and professionally. I'm in law enforcement - I'm nothing without my reputation. I couldn't testify effectively in court if I had a credibility problem.
We can avoid even the white lies. We should instead learn to speak tactfully so as to avoid hurting others feelings.

yes even in small everyday matters.from my own life i know i found out my husband had been lying to me the entire length of our courtship and over 4 years of marriage.i wont bore you with the details but i was very hurt and angry the truth is i would have thrown him and his kid out if i had anyway of supporting myself, but i dont because i lost my job over something he did.i should have realized then how selfish he was and got out when i could have.i have tried to get past this and fprgive him as he says he is sorry and he loves me yet he continues to lie about the dumbest things. i hate that it makes being with him difficult because i cannot trust him and i feel if i do he will lie again because i know he has,hes not even good at it.you cannot have a happy relationship without trust.trust is easy to lose and hard to get back.good luck.

Honesty, is very important because with out honesty we would not be able to trust anyone. We need honesty to get along with others, and we need it so that we can find out things that we want or need to know. Without honesty in the world, there is no truth.

When you make a mistake it is better to tell the truth now and suffer the consequence, because when they find out later that you lied it is 100000 times worse! ALWAYS tell the truth and omitting stuff is the same as lying.
