Supposedly it was started to make it better for you to get more daylight at night. As the days get longer, so does the time that we have sun. So, they did the change in time. But mostly it was set up so that there would be a supposed save in energy. That is the reason for the moving of daylight savings time to an earlier time, such as now. This is something that the Congress saw as a positive. Who knows if it really will help. I don't see how.

Energy saving.

Normally, people goes to work in the morning at goes home around 5-6PM.

So, by the time they get home it will be around 6-7PM, and it's dark. They'd have to turn on the lights to do something.

Now, moving the clock one hour ahead, will make the 6PM still have enough natural light source, therefore, saving energy.

Now, 1 hour may seem very little. But with billions household and months, that is a lot.

Lets try with some numbers
let just say electricity cost 25 cents/hour
and say DST lasted for 8 month at 30 days/month
and ONLY 1 million household is involve.

8x30 = 240 days = 240 hours (1hour/day)
240 x 1,000,000 = 240,000,000 (total hours saved by 1 million households)

240,000,000 x .25 (if the cost is .25/hour)

= 60,000,000 dollars in savings throughout the DST duration.

While there are businesses that operate 24/7 nowaday, the majority of workers are still working within that timeframe.
So, DST is still doing more good than harm.

PS. I don't like it. The whole time changing thing.

assalam o alikum,
here in pakistan, once we did this, and i really like this (but mostly ppl against this)
i will now tell u y i enjoyed this
1 - i use to wake up early, so i can be able to say fajar salaah (morning prayers)
2 - when i move for office, the weather is soo nice, cool nice breeze blowing, and this is healthy and it saves me from pollution as well. here in pak we have usually warm or moderate weather even in winter except few last days of december.
3 - when u start day early then u feel active, but if u start day late, u feel lazy/dull whole day.
4 - after office, i have enough time to go for shopping forexample, or can go for some other work as well since we have day till 8:pm
5 - for evening salaah (prayers) u will have enough time, coz in traveling from office to home one might miss a pray, which is bad and i feel guilty :(
6 - if u look at on large scale, the country can save the energy. forexample, the vehical lights use energy, so it can b saved for more one hour.
7 - from domestic point of view, if ur home have proper ventilation system and ways to get proper natural light, then it again saves the energy
8 - its also useful for those who r using solar energy for getting electricity instead of regular one. it is good esp for offices if they r using such kinda form of energy. they can use this for whole day hours probably.

overall, this daylight saving program is use to safe energy, and use the sunlight at its maxiumum,

i hope i have answered ur q :)

It gets light earlier in the springtime. Going on day light savings gives an extra hour of daylight in the morning.

Supposedly we'll save energy because we'll have an hour more of daylight. It does allow me to walk later than I usually do, but other than that, it's just a lost hour.

because of the fact speaking aloud enables the recommendations to technique and create logical concept. have not you ever observed that when you're purely questioning to your self, your recommendations have a manner of leaping around randomly, yet once you talk out loud, asking and then answering your very own questions, you technique them in a logical order? that's purely how the recommendations works. That - or you're chatting with ceiling kitty......despite works for you! ;)

I will probably catch a heap load of crap for saying this, but I do like it. My children will now have a little longer to play outside and be kids after doing so much homework. Kids don't get to be kids anymore, so every little bit helps. And by George, I hope my light bill improves.
