It looks like the Sleep number bed has plenty of fans out there, but let me give you my opinion. My husband and I decided to give the sleep number bed a try. Our conventional mattress was breaking down, and my husbands back was killing him EVERY night.
We did the demo in the store and laid on it about 15 to 20 minutes and decided that we would give it a go. 15 or 20 minutes is not long enough to make an informed decision on a mattress we learned. We got a queen sized one with the dual chambers and the quiet motor. It wasn't the top of the line one, but it was the one just below it. We noticed right away that the mattress was firmer in the middle than any setting that we could get on the controller. To us, no matter what setting we set, we felt like it was an "air mattress" We were never so happy to get rid of it. Another problem we had is that it didn't sleep evenly. I don't mean across the whole bed, I mean within the individual chambers. At times I felt like my butt was higher than my head.
We opted for the Tempurpedic Celebrity model after we returned the Sleep Number Bed. (They were good about taking it back but we still had to pay $200.00 to return it.) My husband and I both love it. His back pain has been gone since we bought it and both of us have said that if our house burned down tomorrow, we would go out and buy another one.
To us, the sleep number bed simply felt like and overpriced air mattress. Your experience may be different, but I just thought I would post my experience so you could see the pros and the cons.

I LOVE my sleep number bed! We purchased our bed when my son was 11 months old (15 months ago). When I was pregnant with him, I had the worst back pain from a previous car accident. The pain started up again with this pregnancy and I literally didn't sleep the last half of my pregnancy.
I also have an 8 week old. Sleeping while pregnant with baby #2 was completely different. I didn't have problems until I was really huge during the last month. Now, since you're not pregnant you're hoping for good, quality sleep when the two kiddos are sleeping. Let me tell you, I'm a light sleeper. I hear my two year old make weird sounds in his sleep and my 8 week old is a really loud sleeper. But when I crash into this bed at night, I really am getting a better sleep.
My husband and I woke each other up by tossing and turning with our old bed. New beds never helped us. We were tired of spending money on beds that weren't helping. And we have different ideas on what's comfortable. Why not spend a bit more to have a bed that's going to last you (they are on warranty for 20 years). If you gain some weight, i.e. from a pregnancy, you can adjust your sleep number. If your back hurts from lifting your kids all day, you can adjust your number. But for the most part, I'm a 35, and I'm proud of it! (My husband is a 55, and he is happy as a clam that he doesn't have to sleep on my soft 35).
My parents also have a Sleep Number (for a total of 3 years) and would never go back. They bought three beds in three years before their Sleep Number purchase and are happy they aren't dumping money into hopeless mattresses.
In my opinion, you can't go wrong. Good Luck - and sweet dreams!

I got the sleep number bed a year ago, and it took a few weeks to completely adjust to it, but I have liked it ever since. My youngest was 11 months at the time and a terrible sleeper! So I needed some restful sleep also, and I got it! I didn't feel tired when I got up even in the middle of the night. I do think that our bodies get used to the softness or firmness of any bed after a while, and what is great about this bed is that you can adjust that firmness at anytime! If you listen to your body and if you feel you aren't getting the most restful sleep again after you've been at a certain number for some time, then just change it and you start sleeping great again. I have truely enjoyed it.

I do not work for Sleep Comfort, but it may sound like it. Oh my god I love ours! It is so comfortable. I had a waterbed before ours, so it was a easy transition. It is also nice to adjust it from day to day if you want and it was great to adjust the firmness when I was pregnant. I have hip problems and this has really helped. We have had ours for almost two years. There are a few downsides though. 1) We bought the olympic queen (bigger than a queen smaller than a king) and we can't find a headboard to fit it, so it is just on the legs that go with it. We also have to use king size sheets, but they fit fine. 2) My husband is a very big guy and he sleeps on the edge of the bed. This has squished down his side of the bed and mishapened it. This is my biggest concern that the bed will not hold up because of this. I am close to your weight though and no problem where I sleep. 3) you will all sleep so soundly, your husband/significant other will never wake up with the baby.
My husband wanted to buy the bed and I said it was way too much money. Once I tried it out, he had me sold. We love our bed so much, we think it was totally worth it. If you buy one, I would recommend signing up for their email list. We had our bed for a month or two and the damn thing went on clearnace for almost half of what we paid. I would also recommend buying a cheaper model and buying the thick matress pad that goes with it. It will save you some money and be just as comfortable or more with the matress pad, it will also protect your bed if the little ones pee or puke in your bed (I speak from experience here). Also, I recommend paying a little more to have them install the bed, as it looked pretty complicated. Hope you do get one, it really extends those three hours of sleep you are probably getting each night!!

I own one. I have had mine for about a year and a half. At first, I had the dual chamber mattress (queen) but did not like it because it was hard in the middle and I like to sleep in the middle of the bed. I exchanged it for the single chamber and that works much better for me. If you decide to order the bed, order THEIR foundation. I ordered their foundation but am using the actual frame from my last queen sized bed and am now having a problem with the foundation sliding off from time to time, which is this hard plastic type of material that is interlocking, and collasping on the edges. I don't want to buy the Sleep Number support legs for the foundation, but I am looking into going to Home Depot and getting some plywood cut to the size of the complete area of the frame, so my foundation can rest on that completely. Right now there are about 5 long boards I use that law across the frame for support of the foundation (from my original bed) but they keep falling down. They are not long enough, and I had this problem with my other bed too. To answer your question, I guess the expense was worth it for me, but I purchased the Queen size 3000 model for about $1,040 and I did not order the remote with the actual numbers on it, I got the standard one (that comes with the bed) where you just press the button for up or down. I am told the remote that adjusts and shows the numbers is $200 extra. I find that I can "feel" my way around what feels comfortable, I don't need to see the actual number. It does make my back feel better too. It does not hurt anymore when I get up on the morning, and this is why I changed my mattress in the first place. So, it depends on what model you buy, and what extras you purchase, but they can get very expensive. One good thing is I have a two year warranty, so if I really wanted to, I could get a new foundation for my bed, but I don't think it's the foundation itself that is the problem, just the support under it, which I am planning to correct, this week before my warranty goes out. By the way, they gurantee the bed for 20 years. So, once my two years passes, and there is a problem, I can still send it back, but minus a certain percentage depending on the age of the bed. Take your time and go to the showroom in your area and ask plenty of questions and try it out as often as you need to. Have you looked at their website yet? If not take a browse around. Hope this helps.

RE:
Sleep Number Bed - Are they really worth it?
I'd like the opinions from those of you who have this mattress... and have had it for at least a year. Do you find the expense worth it? How has it held up? Is it still comfortable? I purchased a KingsDown mattress (which was "supposed" to be great) and I'm on my second king...

I was having alot of anxiety before sleeping and could not fall asleep. Had many many sleepless nights.
I was just playing with the program one afternoon and wanted to listen to the Power Nap track. Next thing I knew I was waking up! Fell right asleep without trying. After using the Fall Asleep track, I could fall asleep right away. But I didn't realize that I shouldn't be using that one all night. Switched to Whole Night and have been using it ever since.
I can go to sleep with ease now. I just lay and listen to the sounds and next thing I know I am waking up from a nice sleep. I don't suffer from lack of sleep anymore. I keep an IPod with earbuds next to my bed and take it ALWAYS when traveling. The earbuds help block out ambient noise and the sleep tracks keep me sleeping sound :)
Reboot your brain & sleep soundly again?

I work for a company that manufacturers the air bladders controls for these beds and they had a sample at my work. When I was pregnant, they let me nap on it during my lunch hour and I felt rejuvinated, especially when you are in that uncomfortable stage.
If it works that well for naps, then it must be really good for night sleeps! If we could afford one, I'd get one =)
