you could use this site to download youtube videos for free:

Files downloaded from that site would be .flv files and need an flv player to view the videos, you could a free flv player here:

or if you want to convert the flv file to an avi or mpeg file then you could use this free software to do the conversion:

there's a paid software to do all this, you just need to provide the link of the video you want to download and it could convert it to .avi file as well instead of .flv.

it's a shareware you could try it first to see if it suits you better.

OH man! Do u use Mozilla Firefox? If u don't, download it today. Install it and then download the plug-in named "Video Download 2.0" from http://addons.viloader.net/#. you will find detailed information of how to use it on this page. One thing more! Download the Riva flash encoder from http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Riva_FLV_Encoder/rivaflv.html.

play the video you want to save
in your address bar type "kiss" between the www. and youtube.
save the file as flv
make sure you have a flv player to play in the future.
