My friend Johnathon claims that dance and gymnastics aren't sports. Are they sports? I want to prove him wrong! ^^

Well your friend Johnathon is completely wrong.

Dancing and gymnastics both require physical abilility and are considered a sport.

For instance here is the definition of Sport from Wikipedia:
Sport is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Used by itself, sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing), but the term is also used to include activities such as mind sports and motor sports where mental acuity or equipment quality are major factors.

Dance is listed under the category of "Entertainment Sport" (see Resource #2 link).

Dance,Gymnastics and cheer are definitely sports. I know you didn't ask about cheer but it relates to these sports. First of all, all these sports keep you in shape, we have practices like any other sports, and a lot more. Like football they have the super bowl, Gymnastics has the olymipcs and Dance has regionals and nationals. We require a lot of work like any other sport.

gymnatics is very much considered a sport. not only does it have a spot in the olympics its also a title 9 sport and if they remove it from a high school they have to remove a mens program as well(there can not be more men sports than girl). Gymnastics also goes to CIF's. Dance and cheer however im not sure those are sports (they are not title 9) they are more of a club thing
