I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT. I have had problems in the past with when I start it sometimes I have to start it twice-like the first try it wants to start but then I start it again and it does start. So two weeks ago it didn't start at all. Then the battery ran down and nothing. Anyway I finally got it home and had it put on ramps. Under the engine no gas was coming out at first then a day later it was coming out(something under the hood-some hose maybe). It wants to start but it strains and won't. After having it on ramps the first time it did start up and was able to take it around the block. Now it won't start at all. Help me guys I know nothing about cars-what could it be? I don't want to take it to the dealership where I bought it and pay $400.00+ for something that might can be done at home with maybe a few parts from Auto Zone or O'Reiley store.

I believe its the Fuel Injectors or the Fuel Pump,Maybe the spark plugs are flooded.
I suggest going to Auto Zone usually they diagnose cars for free. Good Luck

sounds like a process of elimination might be needed, it could be a number of things, sounds like you have a fuel problem,. you may need a new fuel filter or new fuel pump, if it starts some days and not others then quite possibly the problem. As for the battery going flat well that's another story, you may have electrical problems and the leak could simply be a radiator hose leak or you could have a small leak in your fuel line, your problem could be a combination of these i would definatly get someone to look at it or even call your dealer ship and ask if they could suggest what the problem could be

My guess might be a bad fuel pump or injectiors that are "leaking down" pressure when your car is at rest. Unfortunately, a mechanic needs to look at it to determine either, unless you know someone really handy with an electronic fuel injection DIY (do it yourself) background.

Check fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel strainer (in the tank) and last but not least check for water in the gas (bad gas),

you aught to try replacing the air filter
if it starts an then wants to cut off thats your problem
your air filter prob hasnt been changed in a while so the fuel dosnt get sucked in to the engine it jus sits in the carb.
