The old HD was left in as a "slave."

I never heard of anything like that happening.
Check your hardware manager for maybe conflicts, but I suppose there wont be any.
If your operating system is on that old HDD set as slave...well I would seriously recommend installing it to the master drive.
Doesnt take that much effort and you wouldnt even need to back up any old files.

My guess would be that after putting your system together maybe the network cable isnt plugged in correctly or contacts on the board came lose.

What do you mean by "keep" losing your DSL connection? Do you mean you have intermittent loss of signal? If this is the case, it's probably a coincidence and not a result of your new HD.

However, if you mean, you have no DSL signal then it's probably because you didn't install the DSL connection manager (what SBC/AT&T uses) or you need to login for your DSL account with whatever the provided software was.

IF you have a router set up to do it.. then that's probably not the case.

The only reason your new HD would be the cause is because you don't have the login setup correctly.

Did you setup a fresh install of the OS or did you copy the old HD on to the new one?

If you did a fresh install I'd recommend using the CD that your provider gave you OR contact your technical support to get a new one.

Did you copy your old hard drive in it's entirety to the new hard drive....If not, you DSL installation disc has to put that program on the new hard drive.

If you have been getting DSL sometimes, maybe this isn't the problem, but I think you should investigate it.

Old hard does not cause you to loose your DSL connection.. Check all connections, and you may need to shut down, and restart. XP does have a internet trouble shooter.
