I grew up in Rapid City my whole life, and there are many fun things to see in the Mt. Rushmore area. Definitely check out Keystone, lots of souvenier shops and there is a Presidential Wax Museum that's pretty cool. Go to Hill City and check out the Mistletoe Ranch, it's an all year round Christmas shop, it's lovely. If you like quilting, there is a quilt store attached to that called the Quilt Corral. they have 6000 bolts of fabric. Next door is the Prairie Berry Winery. They ferment their own wines, all made with South Dakota fruits. They have daily wine tastings. You get 5 free samples. Beautiful place. And you'll LOVE everyplace in Rapid City. They have great shopping, restaurants, and history. Definitely shop downtown. I highly recommend the Firehouse Brewing Company for great food and beer. They brew their own, and it's awesome. Hope it helps!

Spearfish has the Passion Play which is extraordinary! Deadwood is an old mining town which has been restored and is now casinos. Very historic and fun if you are into Wild Bill Hickox and Calamity Jane, etc. Lead is also an ole mining town with mine tours. Hot Springs is a neat place to swim in the natural hot springs. Keystone is a little boardwalk town full of shopping. Don't forget to take the drive through the Needles. I love the Blackhills!
