I feel there is only one y, whether you write it small or big. That is important.

y = - 1/2 x + 1 and y = - 2x + 10

- 1/2 x + 1 = - 2 x + 10

2x - 1/2 x = 10 - 1

1 1/2 x = 9

or 3/2 x = 9
x = 2 X 9 / 3 = 6

y = -2 X 6 + 10 = - 12 + 10 = - 2

x = 6, y = - 2

Check using the other equation for y

y = - 1/2 X 6 + 1 = - 6/2 + 1 = - 3 + 1 = - 2

So our values are correct.

well, it's actually very easy. all you have to do is take
y=-2x+10, and plug it in to y=-1/2x+1: -2x+10=-1/2+1. you replaced the y with what y equaled. Then solve it from there. hope that helps! :)

y= -1/2x + 1
y= -2x + 10
Since both of the x expressions = y, they must be equal.
Thus -x/2 +1 = -2x +10
1.5x=9
x= 6
y= -2(6) +10 = -12 +10 = -2
x=6, y=-2

-1/2x + 1= -2x + 10
-1/2x + 2x = 10 - 1
3/2x = 9
x = 9*2/3
x = 6
y = -1/2x + 1
y = -1/2(6) + 1
y = -3 + 1 = -2
Solution: {x, y belong to R | x = 6; y = -2}

set the problems equal to each other and then plug y back in.

-1/2x +1=-2x+10
3/2x= 9
x=6

y=-2(6) +10
y=12+10
y=22

This is how it goes...

If y=y then -1/2x +1 = -2x +10

Which is...x=6

let one equation equal one variable

sub into the other equation

you will find out what one variable is equal to

sub that value back into one othe original equations to solve for the other variable

i got
y = -2
x = 6

1/2x + 1 = -2x + 10
-1/2x -1/2x
1 = -2.5x + 10
-10 -10
-9 = -2.5x
/-2.5 /-2.5
= x
