get rid of x, multiply the second equation by 2

-4x + y = -11
4x - 6y = 10
--------------------------
-5y = -1
y = 1/5

-4x + 1/5 = -11
-4x = -56/5
x = 14/5

(14/5 , 1/5)

multiply eqtn 2 to get 4x-6y = 10.
Now add equations to get -5y=-1 or y=1/5
x=14/5
