trying to jump start a bike with a cage will smoke ur electrical system if u start the car. and no, u cant push start an '04 fuel injected bike. u need to put a battery charger on it for an hour or 2. make sure the connections isnt corroded and they're tight. backing out and retightening the hot side of the battery connection could help also.
lettin a battery go full dead is hard on them. especially if they're exposed to freezing weather. i would highly advise u to invest in a battery tender. they'll always keep the battery fully charged.

The Gixxer has enough power for a small car, and a chassis designed for lightning fast responses. In the hands of a beginner, it will immediately do anything you accidentally tell it to do. It's very easy to accidentally wheelie one or drop it in a corner. So, I'd recommend starting out by taking some lessons, where you'll get to do some riding without needing a bike of your own and have an experienced professional teach you how to ride. In the United States, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation is the biggest group that does these, but there are others. Then you'll want to get some appropriate gear. If you're into sportbikes, you might as well go with the full face helmet and a full leather suit. That'll look the part of a real racer, and keep you protected. For a first sportbike, I'll say it's best to start with one 500 cc's or less. While that may sound close to a 600, the 500's in this market are usually 50 hp or less, and much more forgiving and predictable. I've got a Suzuki GS500F myself, and that one looks a lot like a Gixxer but is a lot easier to ride. Then after you've ridden it for a year or so, if you want more, you'll probably be able to sell it for close to what you paid for it and get something wilder.

The Bucc is half right. The Bike Electrical System can't Take the Load of say a Car ignition. Soooo......If you Jump it from a car, DO NOT START THE CAR you will overload the mtc system.
If you want to start it with out push starting it (most of the other answers about push starting are correct and safe).
Take jumper cables and hook them up to the car and bike but NEVER start the car, let the car batt trickle charge the bike batt. Give it 10-15 minutes and usually the bike starts right up.
Your still young and glad that you are confident enough to divulge the info to us so we can help in any way. No No No Do not do it.. the charging system on a bike is very delicate and you may smoke it if you try to jump start it with a high amp car battery, possibly causing expensive damage.. If the battery is in good condition and simply discharged you can disconnect it from the bike and charge it at low amps slowly.. If you charge it too fast you will warp the small plates and ruin the battery..P.S. I also don't think you can push start the new electronic ign. bikes like you could the old point type ign. (off road trail bikes excepted)

If you don't have cables, you can't jump start it.
Push start it in second gear. If / when it starts, it will need to run faster than idle for a while to get some charge back in the battery.
When you get to jump start it, don't be scared. You won't hurt your motorcycle.
I have both jump and push started every motorcycle I ever owned, including the new all electronic and fuel injected HD.

Jump-starting bikes doesn't do so well. Its not the same as a car. You need to get a trickle charger to recharge your battery. Make sure you match the voltage of the charger to the voltage of your battery. They're pretty cheap and the great thing is... you don't need another vehicle to get your battery going!
Ah yes... I forgot about bump-starting it. The guys below have info for that as well. If you do go that route, make sure you ride it around for a bit (Hwy speed is better) to let the battery recharge itself.

if the fuel pump kicks on (youshould be able to hear it) you can push start the bike if not put the batt on a slow 2 amp charge for a couple hours untill you can start the bike then ride it at speed for a good amount of time to help charg it more short trips will kill a batt fast

Push start it.
Second gear, choke on, run, jump on, pop the clutch, and give it a little gas. (with the key on)
