Yes I believe in the two party system. Also, this is not really as much of a democracy as it is a republic. We choose our leaders who represent us rather than a 100% democracy where the people would vote for everything. There is also a balance of power between the executive, judicial and congress. Although I think the balance of power is off-balance because the judicial is making laws rather than interpreting them and this is wrong. I think this is the biggest problem our founding fathers made was not to put enough teeth in the judicial balance of power that could be used to bite some of our judges a-s-s-e-s and keep them from making laws that are not supported by the people.

Structure YES.

The US has a solid democratic structure that I think has many strengths. An elected senate, a strong system of checks and balances... the ability for Congress to veto a President's veto... that's some pretty good stuff.

I think the only real weakness of American democracy is, as you have pointed out, the choices. Americans are made to believe that being left wing is un American. That's a pretty dangerous mindset, when political beliefs become the foundation of a people... maybe just my opinion. You guys get to choose right wing or ultra right wing... or an independent that basically doesn't matter. I think if America has some REAL left wing choices and a wide range of parties then it would be the supreme system.

I agree that we have had several 'lesser of two' elections and we need some good, strong persons to choose from. Unfortunately, I don't know a better way. It will take a very special person to take the Presidency as an independent. So I don't see that happening soon. And, the problem with an independent is that he will take away votes from the next best meaning the worse choice wins.
It's a catch 22. But even so, I don't see any country I would rather live.
