Not sure why, but it is always held on the nearest Sunday to the 17th , which means some years the parade is held before the the big day. If the 17th was a Sunday, then the parade would be held that day.

Perhaps because of conflicts with the NCAA College Basketball tournament. Perhaps because they think that they can get more people out on a Sunday. Or maybe the Mayor is anti-St-Patricks day!

Because the Irish did not want to infringe upon the Muslim or Jewish Sabbaths. They also wanted to combine their march with the Polish people celebrating St. Joseph's day.

because every year it is on a sunday and depending on what week day it falls on, they do it the closet sunday wather it be the weekend before ot the weekend after!
