I wanna make sure I have the right idea can any help me?

3x - 3 - 8x - 12 > 0

combine liker terms
-5x - 15 > 0

add 15 for both sides
-5x > 15

divide - 5 for both sides, when you divide a negative number, switch the sign
x < - 3

Distribute:
3x - 3 - 8x -12 > 0
Combine like terms
-5x - 15 > 0
Add 15 to both sides
-5x > 15
Divide both sides by -5 {don't forget that you have to flip the inequality sign around whenever you multiply or divide both sides of an inequality by a negative number}
x < -3
