Ok, I have a side bet going with some friends. Which American Idol contestant (whether they were a winner or Top 10 does not matter) has made the most money from their career through cd sales, concerts, etc. I don't want to influence your responses but some names my friends and I have discussed are Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Clay Aiken and Chris Daughtry. I'd appreciate links if you have them, thanks.

Probably Kelly Clarkson because she was successful immediately and has had the greatest amount of time to earn $$ - she has more album sales than any other former contestant and she currently garners the highest fee to make an individual event appearance.

I'd say kelly clarkson but she has had a longer career so not sure if thats fair to say but I do think daughtry broke the most records faster and taylor is on an almost sold out tour mostly just balcony seats left so I think its hard to compare them all doing different things so their prob making pretty close to the same amount of money but i guess kelly chris and carrie and taylor getting most of his money from tours SOUL PATROL

While Kelly's merely a Pop Star, Carrie is now a Country Superstar. Kell'y making more money.

I think it's Kelly Clarkson. She sold more albums than any other idols. And she tours a lot, she did some commercials. I think she's making more money than the others.

years from now...kelly and carrie will still be superstars....if you compare each's career in like the first year...carrie is in the lead...her debut album is the most successful debut for any idol artist.
