All water, even rain water, contains dissolved chemicals which scientists call "salts." But not all water tastes salty. Water is fresh or salty according to individual judgment.
Ocean water is a complex solution of mineral salts and of decayed biologic matter that results from the teeming life in the seas. Most of the ocean's salts were derived from gradual processes such the breaking up of the cooled igneous rocks of the Earth's crust by weathering and erosion, the wearing down of mountains, and the dissolving action of rains and streams which transported their mineral washings to the sea.

Because it has loads of salt in it. The water cycle sees rain fall on the land & flow out to the sea; it carries minerals with it on the way. Since salt is a very common & soluble mineral, much salt is washed into the sea - along with some other stuff too. That's why the sea is salty.

Because the sea contains particles of salt. Fool! Most salt that we use are either mined or extracted from the sea

Rain falls and washes minerals down to the sea along the riverbeds. The sun evaporates the seawater and leaves the salt behind. Which eventually falls as rain and washes minerals down to the sea.........

The ocean is salty because of the gradual concentration of dissolved chemicals eroded from the Earth's crust and washed into the sea. Solid and gaseous ejections from volcanoes, suspended particles swept to the ocean from the land by onshore winds, and materials dissolved from sediments deposited on the ocean floor have also contributed.

The orb on my shoulders tells me there is salt in the oceans. That must be why they call it salt water instead of fresh water.
Gimme a "D"--gimme a "U"--gimme an "H". What's that spell? Duh!!
