I have three daughters and we have a hard time finding clothes that are cute and fun, but still modest. The stores keep selling them, so someone is buying them. Who are these people who want to dress their daughters like little prostitutes?

I suspect that it is both the faults of consumer and marketers. Many of the minds behind the fashions seem to think that little girls are miniaturized teenagers or twenty-somethings and seem to design clothing that would be a pedophile's wet dream. On the other hand there are some parent who don't mind their 6-year-old looking like a Britney/Christina/Jessica midriff-baring clone. You can email your concerns to some of the stores in which you find the offending clothing, or boycott them altogether.

That is because hookers like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Shakira have brainwashed the world with their slutty, revealing, abnoxious, immature, and whore-y 'clothes'. Not that their 'style' should even be granted the title of real clothing.

I for myself.. choose not to show so much skin. There is a huge difference between a low shirt, short skirt, and tight jeans, and what 99% of the teenages in the United States are wearing today.

Ok, so maybe 99% is a little drastic, but its only getting worse, being that, as you said, you can't find cute, goodlooking, yet modest clothing hardly anywhere anymore.

Wow, ok I'm done venting. Have fun with this one, remember that your impact on your daughters clothing now, will make a huge impact on their choice of clothing as they grow up and mature.

Manufacturers and store owners with no conscience. But you hit the nail on the head. Someone is buying it or they wouldn't be selling them.

My way of getting around it is to make most of my daughter's clothing. Simplicity patterns makes some very cute styles for girls. If you can's sew ask a Mother, Aunt or friend to teach you. Also many fabric stores have good classes and you can pick up a used sewing machine from $99 and up.

Good Luck!

They are the same people who buy the bratz dolls. Maybe all the parents are turning into slutts...... I totally agree with you. The clothing and the toy industry are becoming more and more "reveling". I know this wasn't in your question, but i absolutely HATE those bratz dolls. Their boobs are hanging out of their clothes and their lips are HUGE and they look like they are applying for a job as a stripper!!! But man, those clothes for the children are WAY too "grown up".

Sad isn't it? So much peer pressure for the little girls to dress sexy, too. Too bad these moms can't see into the future. They might have second thoughts about how they dress daughters. Skimpy clothing and too much leniency..tis a shame they can't see that now. They aren't giving these girls a thing to look forward to. Bravo for you!

All I can say is that I appreciate your parenting.

The reason why is because of the many parents like the parents of Jennifer Lunsford, who was rapped and murdered and is in the news lately. Stores stock what is sold and since so many parents enjoy dressing their children in provocative ways because they think it is "cute," that is what is sold.

Thank you for being much more appropriate and selective of what your children wear and good luck finding appropriate clothing; it is out there.

BTW, if it hasn't sunk in, while I am very sorry for Lunsford's death, it is not a surprise and in some respects was expected and I partly blame her parents.

I think they see all the older girls in magazines and want to be just like them, so they imitate them.. It's a shame, the stores sell them because they try and make it look like this is how they should be dressing. It's all a test of what I think you should teach kids in appropriate & inappropriate.

Because all they care about is money. If people stopped buying them, then they wouldn't sell them. Kids like to wear them because everyone else is wearing them, some parents don't know how to say no or they're too absorbed in their own lives to think about how their child dresses.

I think you have it in reverse. The stores sell them because people buy them. I have no opinion on their appropriateness, but you're placing the blame on the wrong party.

It's because it's advocated by parents of the little jon benet type beauty queens. Did you see little miss sunshine? they used real beauty queen contestants..the social statement of the movie speaks volumes about this disturbing trend.
