You can "split" the ethernet plug by using a router. You may like wireless access for your new laptop (which is usually included), so look into wireless routers. They're usually the same cost, dependant on sales.

If you were to use the ethernet and usb plugs on the modem, your modem will only give internet access to one of the computers.

You'll have to read the documentation that came with your modem in order to know if you can do this.

If you don't have the documentation, you should be able to download it from www.motorola.com.

As far as connecting multiple computers, you may be better off buying a router that provides both wire and wireless connections. They're fairly cheap and easy to set up.

Good luck,

You would be better off getting a router, preferably a wireless one. Then you can plug the desktop in via ethernet (wireless routers usually have a few ethernet ports on the rear) and surf wirelessly using your laptop.

Get a router (I use Linksys) and connect the router to the modem. You can connect multiple computers to the router and share your connection on the modem that way. Most modems come with software that helps you configure your router.

If you are going to use a notebook computer, you should consider purchasing a wireless router. This will allow you to access the internet from both computers while allowing you to use the notebook anywhere in the house!

ya i leave the modem on each and all the time if ya turn it off it is going to could desire to reset itself each and all the time. warner could inturpret it as somebody attempting to hack your connection after awhile and make ya call them to reset it. so merely leave it on
