Just saw on the news today computers that are two years old and newer should not have any problems, If you are taking your Microsoft updates automatically the patch should have been already installed.

Nope.
The time is controlled by the OS. The only time it changes is for the Daylight Savings time if checked in the clock timezone options.
MS has a "patch" that will update the clock options on its site for the new DST date.
It will require SP2. The updates from MS have it and the menus are easy to follow.
If your clock is changing time otherwise, check you anti-virus for infection.

Yes. A computer will have a own powerful battery that will recharge it self when being used. If your computer is on for let's say 10 min, it can last for about 2 months. It charges up very fast and is only used for the clock.

Your XP machine should have downloaded the patch automatically.
Vista was released with the patch.
You can download the Win 98 patch hear:
http://www.intelliadmin.com/Downloads.htm
Win 95 and earlier are broken and can not be patched.

It will only reset itself properly if you've applied the correct hotfix.
Go to your 'Add-Remove Programs' to see if your computer has applied the patch # KB931836.
You can double-check by downloading and installing it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=66f1420c-df2d-400b-a8a9-ef9061a9a3ca&displaylang=en

It depends on your version of Windows, see the link below for information from Microsoft. Unsupported versions of Windows apparently won't be updated.
