Ionic bonding of sodium and chlorine gives salt, which is sodium chloride. Sodium loses 1 electron as it is in Group I and chlorine gains 1 electron from sodium to have the full outermost electron like the noble gases. By losing 1 electron sodium too will have full outermost shell electrons.

Table salt used for cooking is sodium chloride NaCl. It is mined from salt deposits in the ground, or from evaporation of sea water.

The sodium chloride salt already exists on earth in large quantities, and no one creates or synthesizes salt from sodium metal and chlorine gas.
