Looks like "some ppl" aren't the only ignorant ones.

You're right. Rap has become so stereotypical that unless you fit that mold, you can't break through commercially cause record companies and radio station managers don't think you'll be popular. Thus, if you're a rapper in that position, you remain in the underground market. You might not be rich and popular, but at least you'll be in good company.

At the same time that rap started becoming more commercially popular, a bunch of changes happened in the radio industry and it became harder and harder for new artists from any genre to break through.

Unfortunately those who DO have something to say, ARE creative and AREN'T detrimental can't get any radio play (except, perhaps a spin on a local college or regional hip-hop radio show), let alone video play, so people who generalize about hip-hop think they don't exist. But God knows how many hundreds of thousands of them are in that position and scraping by selling their cds at their shows and online. The ones who make it big are the minority, and since they fit the mold, there's no diversity in commercial hip-hop and we keep getting little more than as*-shaking (that IS affecting kids negatively). Then people insist that rap has nothing good to offer because that's all they see.

But those of us who grew up on hip-hop and love it seek them out and appreciate them. 'Cause I've long ago got sick of being portrayed as nothing more than a piece of meat.

I watched this special on TV and it was a documentary done by this black man i do not remember his name. Anyway there was this rapper convention in Miami,Fl.He showed how it was making the black ppl look bad and why ppl had attitudes abut black ppl it also showed how it was demeaning to the black women. I wish everyone could see this documentary. Most of the songs were violent, sex drugs and how they treated and thought about their women. This man who did this movie asked what they thought about blk women they called them sluts whores and they said they should be treated as so i was so appalled with that. I think rap does not do any good for the black ppl. And the man who did the documentary said the same thing.

Well, people say that all alternative rock music talks about is death and drugs. It's just a steryotype, you learn to live with them. You can't tell people that their opinions are wrong. For instance, I think that rap is pointless. But that's what I think. Other people can think something totally different and think I'm ignorant for thinking that it's stupid.

There is an awful lot of violence in rap, which gives it "a bad rap".
Personally, I think rap can be a lot of fun. It is only a rythmic way of putting lines together, and cannot be harmful in itself - just how you use it, like any other genre.

all of the rap songs I have ever heard (and not because i chose to listen to the garbage) rave on and on about their sexual conquests, drug deals, alcohol consumption and the general joy the "song" writer thinks everyone should get out of the exploitation of things, particularly young women. Not to mention the racial and violence refered to in this genre of music.

Heck - I can't understand ANY of the lyrics - I just don't think it's high art (or even music) compared to Jazz, the Beatles or Mozart.

Why do you (not just you but so many people on here) love saying the word "ignorant"? It must be the new cool word on here, I see it everyday, all day. And most of the time it's used by people who disagree with another's opinion.

And for your question, about 90% of rap is about that. Maybe the other 10% is about how the black man is oppressed (think of Kanye West) or occasionally how evil the government is.
