Wakes are for viewing and are held in the evening to accommodate people that work during the day. Funerals are held in the morning with a service held in a church or temple. The procession always drives together with their lights on to signify a funeral procession and the right of way going through travel signals. Funerals with burial are never held in the evening because the cemetery would have to install flood lights so people would not walk into a grave stone or fall into an open grave ready for burial.

Actually night time funerals are becoming more common in certain geographic areas of the south especially. Due to increasing difficulty for friends of the deceased, and even distant family being able to get off work, etc, many families are resorting to evening funerals. They have been very common place in parts of KY, TN, and GA for at least 10 years now.
The services are as follows. The visitation (receiving of friends) is typically from 5-8, or 6-8, or maybe even 5-7. This can occur at the funeral home or at the church. Then the funeral happens immediately after the visitation, at 7pm or 8pm. After the funeral, everyone goes home. The next morning, the family either gathers at the graveyard, or they meet where the body is and form a procession, and go to the cemetery. Typically the graveside is a much smaller, and intimate crowd, and is only a few minutes long.
There are some of us that hate the nighttime funerals, but in cities, like Knoxville, Chattanooga, etc, it has almost become the rule and not the exception.
Again, it s the funeral that is at night, not the procession or the burial.... that happens the next morning.

No. They drive with their flashers on... just like every other funeral. Plus, there aren't a lot of nighttime funerals.

There's no such thing as a night time funeral and if there was, it's illegal to drive with them off.
