I'm a big advocate of sports building character through teamwork. It will be up to you as to what you like though. If you plan on continuing to cheer you will have to consider this when picking your sports. Most girls I knew who cheered chose softball or soccer so they could continue cheering during football and boys basketball.
As for chickening out, just take whatever you want in life girl. You only get one chance to live each day. If you can temper yourself to understand this and live by that you will be way ahead of the game.

Watch a sport that catches your interest on TV, watch how the game is played, and practice at home if you can. Spend time becoming better at that sport, so when you do well, you won't want to give up or "chicken out." Try to make friends with people on the team, people that you can talk to about the game, and people that can help you get better. Even if you don't have a winning season the first year, don't let that get you down. Play again the next season, and your hardwork and effort will pay off with a winning season.
After all that typing, I better get a Best Answer for that.
Just kidding.
But not really.

'Kay. I'm like you. I love cheerleading, too! But I'm no good at the other sports. Just do what I do; dabble in on every sport that sounds remotely interesting. Volleyball, basketball, flag football, etc. Just things like that. Add a little competitive edge. Like challenge the boys to game of basketball. You should see the look on their faces when they're beat by a "girly~girl." It's hilarious!!
