No! Do NOT give the baby OTC meds!! Unless prescribed by your doctor. I am a mom of a 14 month old and my doctor always said that cough/cold meds rarely work on kids under 2-thus the dosage charts on meds say under 2 years contact doctor! If your baby is wheezing, you need to call the doctor. I have had plenty of experience in this department! I hope I have helped you. If you can't take her to her regular doctor, there must be an after hours childrens place somewhere. To give you piece of mind, call a local hospital b/c they can tell you exactly what "wheezing" sounds like.

There have been studies showing that cold medicines for kids really do nothing to alleviate the virus. The most you can do is keep your baby comfortable... invest in an inexpensive vaporizer (about $10-$15) and some spearmint oil (about $7 at health food stores) and use the vaporizer every night with about 4 drops of the spearmint oil. This has a similar effect to eucalyptus (menthol), without the harsh odor. During the day, use a saline solution to help loosen mucus and a suction bulb to clean out baby's nose every half-hour or so. Other than that, if it's not affecting the baby to the point where she can't sleep, my advice is to let it run its course.

My daughter is the same age, and also came down with a cold/cough I was really concerned so I called the doctor. He said not to give any medicine (its easy for an infant to overdose on meds) If your baby does not have a fever, sleeping okay and personality has not suffered your baby is okay. (my daughter was vomiting and diarrhea) The doctor suggested Pedalite every other feeding for a couple of days. and for the nose a simple saline drop. Babies are more resilient then people think. As long as you keep communication open with your doctor and observe your child I'm sure they will be okay. Good Luck.

The only thing that can be done is using saline spray to break upp congestion (Little Noses Saline Spray), and then using the aspirator (booger sucker) to pull the boogies out. Also, run a humidifier round the clock. If your baby is wheezing, you NEED to call your doc, tell him you're on holiday, and see what he reccomends. He may want you to get to an ER right away, or he may be able to reccomend a pediatrician in the area. But wheezing is normally a concern.

do not give an 8 week old anything at all! Call your Dr. & tell them that your on vacation and they will tell you what to do. Or go to the ER. Babies can die of being overdosed by the parents and they can dehydrate. CALL THE DR OR GO TO THE ER.

That should not stop u from taking her to A doctor... poor wee thing! I would always consult b4 giving meds to baby.
Note to you. communication is about being understood... not about spelling, grammar and using capitals, yet u criticize me on a spelling error.

You need to take your baby to the doctor immediately. Babies this young need to be seen ASAP if they are wheezing.
Take her to a local hospital. Get her checked out. If nothing comes of it, at least you will feel better.
