The Nazis were as far to the right as they could go. Their name was chosen for political expediency only. The German economy was well on its way down the tubes. They chose the name as part of the propaganda machine that put them into power. See, at that time, people knew the difference between communism & socialism: communism was a dictatorship where the state owned all the property. Under Hitler, they kept their property (except for the Jews & other undesirables) & enjoyed more prosperity. And the rest is history.

It's a pretty confusing question. Both left and right wingers accuse the other of resembling Nazi's. The Nazi's in my opinion, weren't really either... a more mixed system inching a little to the left.
The Nazi party was called the National SOCIALIST German Worker's Party. However, this was made to appeal to workers and farmers in Germany who tended to vote left wing. The Nazi party offered tax credits/exemptions to corporations that sponsored them... so in a way they championed private industry. However, this private industry was often given guidelines, like quotas and whatnot. The state did play a pretty active role in Nazi Germany.
It definitley wasn't socialist by defnition. Nazi's didn't want the re-distribution of wealth, but rather a strict caste system based on race. This runs counter to socialist value systems.
So to conclude, I believe Nazism was a pretty unique political entity that was a bit more left than right ONLY becuase of increased role of the state in daily life. NOT becuase of their actual policies.

Nazi is an acronym for National Socialist Party. Socialists are firmly on the left, but the Nazis were Fascists. Fascism is as far to the right as Communism is to the left.

They were fascists, which means they were on the far right of the political spectrum. At the opposite end where the communists.

Well, they weren't Americans,so they had their own belief system which was sick. They also believed in the occult and used pagan rituals and symbols (the swastika).
My Dad was fairly conservative (actually, most people didn't really use those terms back then) and he was a WW2 veteran.
