Taxes are vital to our lives. The roads you drive on, the schools that most people attend, the police officers who secure the community, the military who protects our country, maybe even the venue where you favorite pro team plays... all those things are supported by taxes.

We have to pay taxes because our national infrastructure requires taxes to function.

Ahh but it will get worse. The United Nations is establishing a Global IRS and right now developing a tax structure. Businesses in Texas are already having to comply with international laws and are reporting financials to a database so tax structures can be established. Currently there is a bill in Congress against anyone in America participating or paying that tax, as it goes against our Constitutional rights.

Read this:

H.R. 1017 - Prohibition on United Nations

Taxation Act

H.R. 1017 would prohibit the United States from paying any voluntary or assessed contributions to the U.N. or any of its agencies, including the U.N. Development Program, unless the president of the United States certifies to the Congress 15 days in advance of such payment that the U.N. or such agency is not engaged in any effort to develop or promote any taxation proposals in order to raise revenue.

First off, the president isn't doing anything to make taxes disappear. Second, we all pay taxes everyday that maintain our roads, etc, that have nothing to do with income tax: Gas tax, tire tax, sales tax, registration tax, liquer tax, tobacco tax, licensing tax, property tax, permit tax, (the list is much longer).
Regarding *income* tax, no, you don't have to pay it; no one does, it's entirely voluntary. But you shouldn't attempt to NOT pay it unless you know exactly what you're doing and have studied law long enough to know how the game works. Everyone paying income tax does so voluntarily and by consent; unfortunately, so few people understand the law in this country that they have no clue that that's what they're doing. There are millions of Americans who lawfully do not pay taxes, and haven't paid for decades.

I wouldn't want to live in a country that doesn't have the services that are paid for by taxes. Yes. government is wasteful, but can you come up with a better system? By the way, you too will one day be old. And I hope you have as much patience for young people who think they know it all, as we do for you.

Where would you be without the benefits taxes provide. Think about it. May be they are unfair but needed. It takes money to run our governments [state & Feds] Social Sec. has nothing to do with taxes. Study and make yourself presentable. Also use your spell checker.

Most of your taxes go toward the freedoms that allow you to ask such questions. (Learn to type in fully spelled words.) Not all liberals are old. (Learn to spell as well.) Keep thinking like this and you should be able to maintain vague notions and offer little to intelligent discourse.

Good question. I can understand paying taxes for things like road maintainence and repair, and national defense; those things that we can't do for ourselves, and those things that the private sector can't do either. I'm totally against the "Nanny State" and the taxes it takes to run it.
