Yes. They would still have lost and been overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of Xerxes armies, but they'd have held the gates for much longer, days longer, perhaps long enough for the political machinations back in Sparta to have allowed for reinforcements to arrive.

The outcome ultimately would have been the same, but the timing and numbers of casualties for Xerxes would have gone way up.

Yes... they could have held out for days, maybe weeks more. They suffered few causalities in each wave and might have killed enough for Xerxes to retreat for a while and think of a new strategy while reinforcements came to help the Spartans.

Sure. The Spartans were holding their own against a purely frontal attack. Once they were surrounded, they had no chance.

I thought it quite odd that they showed the Spartans frequently coming out of the "gate" and fighting in the open (more or less). That also exposed them to the risk of being flanked. I don't think that the real Spartans would have done that.

Considering how stupid the movie was, Id say yes.

Maybe the 700 thespians they didnt mention would have had a hunchback orgie!

God, I LOVE it when overzealous money-hungry directors sponge off of old scenarios! HA! I could have written a better one in my sleep.......... typical stupid hollywood!

i think they would have been able to hold out untill the senate or whoever they were decided to send the whole greek army at them. like they said, 3 slaves to one spartan (1,000,000 to 300,000) are pretty good odds. greece did defeat the persians.
