(2sqrt(x) - sqrt(4))*(sqrt(x) + sqrt(y))

(2sqrt(x) - 2)*(sqrt(x)+sqrt(y))

2sqrt(x)*sqrt(x) +2sqrt(x)sqrt(y) -2sqrt(x) -2sqrt(y)

2*x +2sqrt(x)sqrt(y) -2sqrt(x) -2sqrt(y)

you can factor out a 2 and that's about it.

You'll get four cross-products: 2x, -2 sqrt x, 2 sqrt (xy), -2 sqrt y. The result is the sum of all of these.

Use the FOIL method which is First, Outstide, Inside and Last. Multiply the First 2 terms then the Outside terms, the Inside terms and lastly, the Last terms. That is how you should get the answer.

I don't really understang your question.
Is it (2x^2 - 4^2)(x^2 + y^2) ?
If this your question, then
(2x^2 - 4^2)(x^2 + y^2)
2(x^2 - 2^2)(x^2 + y^2)
2[x^4 + (x^2)(y^2) - 4x^2 - 4y^2] (final answer)

*Hope this helps. I can only expand it, but can't solve it.
