Smoking wintv pvr usb2?

I plugged in an adapter into my usb pvr and it started smoking and smelled like it was burning. Is the device fried or is there something i can do to save it?

Smoking ... as in you could actually see smoke?
It's fried.

If it managed to pul enough power out of the USB port to start smoking, it was pretty seriously SNAFU before it started smoking.

It's toast dude.
