Some are brain washed idiots. Others, like myself, know better.

Well, homosexuality was around before christianity was. I have no idea why the church rejected it. But in the times of christ, homosexuality, and many more acts were "solved" simply by stoning (throwing huge rocks at the person until they died) them to death. Some of these include cursing your mother or father, commiting adultery, and a few more things that are common these days. Actually, according to the christian bible, god finds homosexuality "detestable", but as far as I've read (I had to endure Old Testatment last semester) god never actually called it a sin. I could be wrong though.
Sorry, I went off on my soap-box and completely missed your question. I think that most christians learn their rejection through their parents. I'm positive that if people grew up without the influence of their parents beliefs, than they would be far more accepting of everyone else. There'd be less war, we'd help each other more. I hate to sound like a cliché, but it really is societies fault for most of the hate out there.
Hope I didn't make too much of an *** out of myself just now...
Good luck with your question.

I am a Christian and I can tell you that I do not hate you nor any other gay/lesbian person. I think that I believe this way because I grew up in elementary school with a boy who I knew was different from day 1. I KNEW that he was born this way. I often questioned the accusations made by others that it is learned behaviour. It made no sense to me.
Many feel that they would have to deny a part of the bible where homosexuality was rejected. What many don't realize is that this part of the Bible was written many thousands of years before Christ. Science was not as advanced as it is now. Jesus preached about love not hate. I choose to love!!

Most Christians base their opinions on both the Old and New Testament... Old Testament Examples Leviticus 18:22 - "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads." New Testament Examples Romans 1:26-27 - " Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion." 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." BUT that doesn't mean that Christians should reject Homosexuals... but what they believe is against what the Bible teaches and how God created us to be, so Christians should be against homosexuality just as they are against lying, stealing, cheating and gossiping.

I'm a what I consider myself to be a "Recovering Catholic"; but I still consider myself Christian. I believe Christ taught love and acceptance and to appreciate all of God's creatures. The Bible is being misquoted and twisted to justify an unfounded & VERY biased belief. Education is the key to wizdom& acceptance, you have to awaken people and there's still allot of people in "deep comas", if you catch my drift. lol

I believe in the bible it states "man shall not lay with man as he lay with women," and people take that to mean homosexuality is wrong. When someone is raised being told that this is what they should believe, it's hard to get rid of that feeling as they get older.

Christians reject homosexuality only because its an abomination to God not realizing that they themselves are not God himself. This said, his Son teaches love of others, not rejection so there seems to be no reconciliation possible until the religous realize that they themselves are no better then the Gay.
