My mother tried it when pregnant with me and she says it didn't work.

It can, because it causes the bowels to contract, which can in turn cause the uterus to contract. HOWEVER it can also cause baby to have his first bowel movement in the womb, causing a risk of aspirating waste matter into the lungs, and creating a chance of complications, especially if you do not go into labor. There are other, safer methods. I personally used a Evening Primrose oil gelcap as a vaginal suppository twice a day for the last two weeks of pregnancy- not only did it soften the cervix and make things move along more easily, it also increased the elasticity of the skin in the general area and kept me from needing an episiotomy.

Contrary to what you may have heard, castor oil or other bowel stimulants should not be used to provoke labor. While they can initiate contractions, they tend to produce significant abdominal discomfort and may cause dehydration and electrolyte disturbances that can endanger both mother and child. Having said that, here are a few things I recommend:
Walking: Through mechanisms not fully understood, walking can provoke or intensify contractions. The mechanism possibly involves the release of prostaglandins that are contained between the uterine wall and the bag of water (fetal membranes).

Unprotected intercourse: Semen contains prostaglandins. Their presence, combined with increased uterine activity after orgasm, can trigger labor.

Nipple stimulation: When a baby suckles, the stimulation of the nipple sends a neural impulse to the brain. This causes the release of a hormone (oxytocin) that causes milk letdown. The uterus has numerous receptors for oxytocin that, when stimulated, cause uterine contractions. You may get the same effect by gently rubbing your nipples with a warm, moist washcloth for 15 to 20 minutes. This can be repeated several times throughout the day.

No, it doesn't. There's not really anything you can do to induce labor. It will happen when it does. I was 9 days overdue with 2 of my kids (not twins) and 1 day overdue with another, 2 days overdue with the other.

I tried everything!!! I mean everything- sex, rides down bumpy roads (I lived on a dirt road AND I went four wheel drive riding).. more sex, walking... more sex (lucky husband).. NOTHING worked.

Castor oil will give you stomach and intestinal cramps, they may feel like contractions, but probably won't be. A fleet enema won't do anything from you but make you poop.

Think about it, if it worked, why would the doctors not give it to their patients at 40 weeks or when they are overdue? Why doesn't the hospital use it instead of pitocin? Why did a pharmaceutical company not grab hold? It doesn't make sense logically... we all know how much those companies love money. ;)

Yes it could, BUT I wouldnt try it. Even if I was extrememly desperate, I would just let nature take its course, or try walking or sex. Castor oil can leave you with terrible cramps, vomiting and diarrhea. Its pretty bad stuff. It can also cause complications with the baby. Not worth it. Check out this site. It will give you all the info on it.

I would NOT drink anything!!! You don't know what it might do to the baby!
But I know for fact that having sex and doing ALOT of walking will induce labor
Good Luck and God Bless

I tried it and it did NOT work- but it did clean me out and gave me bad cramps.

I wouldn't suggest it again. If anything, I'd try a Fleet enema- it's safer.
