The taller you are, the easier it is to serve, as you will have a higher tracectory when serving. It can also make it easier when you have to hit higher balls. 5 foot 5 sounds like a middle height. you should be well positioned to be a good all-rounder. the rochus brothers are very short, but are top players. Moreover the best small player ever was Amanda Coetzer, making it to No. 2 in the world, boy was she tiny.

As others have said, height helps with serve and net play but may be an impairment to mobility around the court. So, the advantage it has is a better serve/volley/overhead game but offers the ossible disadvantage of reduced court mobility. However most female pros are pretty close to the 6 range nowadays but there are plenty in your range(5'5) like Hingis who you can emulate.

Height helps you with your serve no doubt , but you may not move around the court as well. There are a lot of top women players who are in th 5'5 -5-8 category. Control what you can and keep working on your strengths

With men, size does really matter. If you are around 1m80 (6ft) you should be fine, but when you are smaller, you should have the best qualities to back the height up.

With women it really has no difference, we have Justine Henin and Serena 1m65 and 1m72 - and we have venus or davenport or sharapova at 1m85 - 1m89.

It's proven that, when you are taller you can see the tactics better and will better angles. But it's not always true..

It usualy does not have a difference. I play in tournements across my state in 14s and Im 13 so I usualy play kids in highschool and I win and they are sometimes 3 ft. taller than me. It also just matter who you play.
